At the end of the 2008 season, the Calgary Kookaburras saw a need for a program that would introduce younger Canadian girls into our footy team. The concept has developed and is being implemented during May &amp; June, 2009.<br /><br />The program consists of sending dedicated footy development facilitators into schools to teach skills and to build a relationship between school students and the Alberta Footy clubs. The facilitators will return to the same schools every week for five weeks, gradually introducing more-complicated footy skills and strategies to the students. The program is provided free to the participating schools, and students will receive footy merchandise and information packs introducing our sport option that they may take home to their parents. We aim to get students interested in joining the Calgary Kookaburras (women's) and Calgary Kangaroos (men's) community footy clubs.<br /><br />Local travel agent <span style="font-weight: bold;">Downunder Travel</span> has generously offered to sponsor the program in its' first year. Downunder Travel have been a solid supporter of footy in Calgary through their sponsorship of the Kookaburras and without their involvement the program would be delivered on a much smaller scale. Amanda has two-years of experience playing Australian football with the Calgary Kookaburras. A Sarnia, Ontario, native, Amanda has a background in health care and as a basketball coach.
